You don't need to be a musician to play the MEINL Kalimbas. These instruments, also called thumb pianos, produce soothing, melodic tones and are tuned to a specific scale in which all the notes complement each other. This means that you can never play a wrong note.
The great thing about MEINL Kalimbas is that in addition to being accessible to everyone, they are multifunctional. Percussionists use these instruments to add subtle layers of sound in a recording studio, sound therapists use them for meditation and relaxation, and you can simply enjoy these instruments at home as you like. Kalimbas are fun for any music lover, regardless of background, age, or skill level.
Chrome-plated steel tines produce a percussive and melodic sound when plucked with the fingers or thumb. Each tine is preset to a pitch within a scale specified for that particular kalimba model.
You can move in any direction over the tines, with complete freedom to create endless melodies. In addition, striking any two notes at the same time creates a chord.
The MEINL Solid and Wah-Wah Kalimbas use New Zealand pine for its light weight and durability. This wooden base also helps to create a natural resonant tone by allowing the metal tines to decay freely.
Our wah-wah kalimba has a hollowed-out body with an opening that faces you. To achieve a wah-wah effect, press the opening of the instrument onto your upper body while playing and remove it again. This sound is ideal for creating fascinating acoustic soundscapes in a studio recording.
When extra amplification is needed for live shows, the Meinl Pickup Kalimba is equipped with a pickup system with external volume control.
